School Status & Learning Modes

MathZone is offering a support mechanism to students with the aim of mitigating the impact of students being unable to attend school in-person.

Schools in Pennsylvania including the Pittsburgh region have been battling to develop plans for reopening for the 2020-21 Academic year. To-date, schools have defined the following options for students:

  1. Full in-person attendance option, subject to government stipulated phase

  2. Hybrid option of in-person attendance and online instruction

  3. Full online instruction

Schools have been asking parents to select the mode of teaching (from the above mentioned choices) which they consider to work best for their child or children and of course, many factors come into play when making this decision.

Parents must juggle their own responsibilities, especially with work, while wishing to ensure the best outcome for their children.

School Support Program

MathZone has prepared options that parents will find useful and will help to mitigate any potential learning gaps for their child or children.

While MathZone tutoring options for students in all grades remain in place, we have broadened the support options being offered to students in Grades K - 5  &  Grades 6 - 8.

Two separate, in-person school support sessions have been scheduled to cater for Grade K - 8 students while in-person & online tutoring options for all students are also available.

School support sessions are each 4 hours in duration and will cater to students allocated across our Cranberry & Wexford locations. At this stage, Cranberry will have a limit of 12 students per 4-hour session and Wexford will cater to a limit of 8 students per 4-hour session. Each student will have their own dedicated 6' desk, adhering to CDC Guidelines.

Students will be supported in working through their teacher assigned material. In this way, the student will not be left to attempt work or try to learn material on their own.

In conjunction with the student, MathZone staff will access assigned school curriculum and work with the student to complete assigned tasks. In effect, our staff will replicate the role of the student's school teacher. Sessions will be supported by Pennsylvania certified teachers who are qualified to teach relevant grade levels.

School Support Enrollment

MathZone has defined the school support program model as attendance twice per week, in either morning or afternoon sessions. Enrollment in the school support program will mirror, as closely as possible, attendance periods defined by area schools.

MathZone School Support Program dates are:

  • 1st    School period - September 7th, 2020 - November 7th, 2020

  • 2nd  School period - November 9th, 2020 - January 23rd, 2021

  • 3rd   School period  - January 25th, 2021 - March 26th, 2021

  • 4th   School period  - March 29th, 2021 - June 11th, 2021

Access to Student Electronic Devices

To assist with accessing a student's class assigned material, MathZone staff will require login details such as User ID and passwords to connect to the learning management system used/provided by the school such as 'Blackboard' or 'Canvas' etc.

These details will be captured on the enrollment form. As a courtesy, MathZone asks that parents inform their child's teacher(s) that MathZone staff may electronically interact with them via the learning management system.
