Marsha Karanikos - Mathematics
Marsha is MathZone's Education Coordinator, covering Cranberry & Wexford locations. Marsha holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and a Diploma of Teaching.
She is a Pennsylvania registered High School Mathematics Teacher. Marsha has taught a variety of courses including Algebra I & II, Integrated Math, Calculus, Statistics & Trigonometry.
Marsha also has extensive Business Systems Analysis, Project Management and Consulting experience within the Information Technology industry gained while employed by the Bell Group of Companies (Telecommunications) in the USA and while working internationally as an Information Technology Consultant in Melbourne, Australia.
As the Education Coordinator, Marsha is responsible for the coordination of program material for each year level, learning plan development, definition of tutorial objectives and associated activities.
Danielle McKain - Mathematics
Dr. Danielle McKain is a High School Mathematics Teacher. Danielle has taught a variety of courses including Algebra I, Algebra II, Integrated Math, Probability & Statistics, Trigonometry and Computer Assisted Algebra. Additionally, she has many years of experience preparing students for the SAT.
Danielle earned her Ph.D in Instructional Management and Leadership from Robert Morris University, Pittsburgh PA. Danielle also holds a Master of Science degree in Instructional Leadership with a concentration in Mathematics Education as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics.
Danielle's research interests include Real World math, Test preparation, Math anxiety, Remedial math and preparing future teachers.
Karen Santelli - English
Karen has taught writing and literature for more than 20 years at Middle School, High School and College levels. Specializing in teaching and tutoring students in academic writing, Karen has taught a variety of courses such as Composition I and II, Remedial Writing, Creative Writing and Journalism.
Karen is certified in Pennsylvania to teach English in Grades 7 to 12 and earned her Masters in Secondary English Education degree from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh PA.
With a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Communications from the University of Dayton, Ohio, Karen's first career was news reporting and editing. Karen also writes poetry and fiction.
Geoff F. - Mathematics
Geoff is a Pennsylvania certified teacher who has been teaching at the Elementary level for many years. Geoff earned his Masters of Education Degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA.
He has certifications for Elementary K-6 and Middle-Level Mathematics 7-9.
As the newest member of the MathZone team, Geoff leads the effort in working with all Elementary students while providing further support for Middle-Level students.
Geoff greatly enjoys his time under the professional tutelage of Marsha as much as his time inside the school classroom and looks forward to each day’s different and exciting challenges!
Shane Martin - Mathematics
Shane is a certified Mechanical Engineer-in-Training (EIT). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Thiel College with minors in Physics and Mathematics.
While at Thiel, Shane served as a Writing Lab Tutor and as the Teaching Assistant for Calculus I and II. At the University of Pittsburgh, Shane was the Teaching Assistant for the Introductory Thermodynamics course. Shane has extensive teaching assistant experience gained from tutoring Pitt students during office hours.
Shane has hosted after-hours review sessions, consulted with the Professor on the structure of the course, prepared exams and homework assignments and delivered course lectures during the Professor’s absence.
Elizabeth Thomson - English
Liz teaches AP English Language & Composition and Global Issues. She also works as in- home/community support for adults with special needs and is passionate about helping people of all abilities reach their potential.
Liz began her dedication to service through education during High School, mentoring elementary students with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Liz attended Duquesne University, Pittsburgh PA and earned her BA in International Relations, Spanish and Theology. She tutored peers and adults in Spanish and ESL throughout college. After graduating from Duquesne, she went on to teach K-8 Spanish at St. Bernard’s.
Liz completed her Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of Pittsburgh in 2016, while full-time intern teaching high school US History. She is dual-certified in Secondary Social Studies and English.
